I dipped the Hawfinch, dipped the Mandarin but found a couple of very nice Marsh Tits plus the loos are great. Sod paying to park it was £5-80 an expensive dump for some but not I.
Sat Nav'd it home and it took me so close to one of last years very last year ticks (not this bird though) that I just had to nip in and whap it on, missed the Waxwing flock though by hours..bummer!
Not one of the jobs I built in a previous career (did a bigger one in Hong Kong) but the view from one of Lincolnshire's most accessible
reserves namely Far Ings. Once again in a brief lunch time visit I saw f'all but its on the radar just in case that mega turns up. A free car park and no permits required take note West Midland Bird Club dudes.
A sort of free hour in between surveys and a quick look at the map had me exploring the banks of the mighty river Humber near Skitter. Wellies on I attempted to go in and flush one of my long time 'want to find for myself ' birds Lapland Bunting. No such luck but I did flush three Short-eared Owls...magic birds!
What cracking birds, they really put on a show for yours truly.
One for the years Self Found List me thinks?
